English version

In 1902 the economic development of the Moravian-Slovakia region and the rise of national awareness combined to create the beginnings of economic education in Uherske Hradiste. This education was provided through the formation of a two-form business school called the Business Academy. In 1905 the Czech Merchant School was affiliated with it, and in the 1909/1910 academic year the first form of the girls´ business school was opened. The business education in Uherske Hradiste was given a new impulse after the origin of the Czechoslovak Republic. In 1919, the Business Academy, which was then the only higher business school in South-East Moravia, was established. The school´s importance began to be recognized at this point, especially because of its relationship to the industrial development taking place in the nearby city of Zlin where a branch of the Hradiste Business Academy was established. World War II interrupted teaching at the Business Academy when the school was closed during 1944-1945. The name of the school has changed during its history from the Business Academy to the Higher Economic School to the Secondary School of Economics. In 1990, the original name, the Business Academy, was re-instated.

Originally, the school offered only one study programme called Business Academy preparing students for their functioning in business environment - in local and international companies, foreign trade, banking, travel industry, state and public administration and other services. In 2000 course options expanded with the establishment of a new study programme called Business Lyceum. Its primary aim is to prepare students for university studies, but it also prepares students to be qualified and skilled specialists in applying economics in practice. In 2005 a new study programme was added - Information Technologies in Economy. It prepares qualified specialists able to support business operations using information and communication technologies.

In 1996 the school was included in the network of higher educational institutions and opened a new undergraduate programme specializing in economics and law issues. In 2000 the State Language School with the right to grant the certificate of the state examination was also established as a part of the Business Academy. It offers language education in various courses, including one-year undergraduate courses.

Since 2003 the school has been providing educational services to senior citizens in the form of the Open University. It offers personal development programmes in the extension of Palacký University Olomouc.

Since 2006 the school has been cooperating with the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University Ostrava in organizing educational services for undergraduate courses. The bachelor degree courses called Travel Industry Management and Sports Management take place in the newly-built Regional Educational Centre in Uherske Hradiste.

Over the course of time, the school building has been widely adapted. The last extensive reconstructions, renovations and outbuildings were carried out in 1996, 1997 and 2001.

Today´s school is well equipped - there are five computer laboratories (one of them with a capacity of 36 seats), a language laboratory, a multimedia room for 64 people, an assembly hall for 80 people, a specialized classroom to accommodate a fictitious firm, a gymnasium, a library and a study. The school´s network links the computers in the classrooms and teachers´ offices to one another and provides the Internet access. In addition to classroom instruction and practice, all students have after-class access to the computers and their own e-mail addresses.

The school is well equipped for doing sports - it supports many out-of-school activities and provides courses in skiing, boating, and other sports.

The Business Academy enjoys the close cooperation with other significant schools and enterprises of the region. Some of the cooperative ventures are carried out with the Association of Entrepreneurs, the Association of Accountants, Economic Chamber, School of Economics in Prague, Tomas Bata University in Zlin - Faculty of Economics and Management, the Institute of Research of Specialized Education, etc.

Friendly and fruitful relationships have been also been developed with some schools abroad, such as the Aalborg Business College in Denmark. Through the framework of the programme SOCRATES, the schools in Rheine (Germany) and Trenčín have found their way to the Business Academy in Uherske Hradiste.

Last but not least, the school has been connected with the first stage of the UNIV project and participates in the lifelong learning programmes for adults. It also takes part in preparing the projects of the EU grant programme called the Operational programme of Human Resources and Employment.

During its history, the Business Academy has educated many people who have made significant marks in the professional world. As a result of their study at the Business Academy, many graduates have pursued further education at the university level. Business professionals in economic fields, university professors and institutional managers are among those who began their economics studies at the Business Academy. Currently, the most famous graduate is Tomas Bata.

The Business Academy has an ambition to be a successful school with a high standard of education which can contribute to further cultural and economical development of both our town and region.
